The Rural Institute Olympics are team competitions held for secondary level schools around Guatemala. All rural schools are invited to participate.

This year the games were held on August 5, 6 and 7, in the village of Las Victorias, Chancolín community, close to the Maya Jaguar campus. The competitions included: futsal*, 11-a-side soccer, and basketball.

Nine educational schools participated, for both male and female students, including teams from Maya Jaguar. Our young ladies team participating in futsal won third place (bronze) by winning over the team of INEB of Las Conchitas.

* Futsal is a football-based game played on a hardcourt like a basketball court, smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It has similarities to five-a-side football and indoor football. Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper.
