Join us for Dia De Los Muertos

The Second Annual “Dia De Los Muertos” celebration and auction will raise funds for a girls dormitory slated for completion in 2017 at our Mayan Center for Education and Development in Santa Cruz Barillas, Guatemala.

For more than 25 years, Adopt-a-Village in Guatemala (AAV) has partnered with the Mayan communities of northwest Guatemala to empower youth in the region through education and skills training so that they may improve social and economic conditions in their communities. We invite you to join us in October to celebrate our partnership and raise funds to expand educational opportunities for students.

ABOUT THE MAYAN CENTER FOR EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT

Completed in 2009, Adopt-a-Village's Mayan Center for Education and Development is a private residential education center located in a remote rainforest region of Guatemala. The center was established by AAV to provide a formal education to impoverished youth in the region and offers both a middle and high school. Extreme poverty prevents most girls in this area from education past primary school, resulting in early marriage and a lifetime of child bearing and domestic servitude.The new girls dormitory will create additional housing on the residential campus and expand educational opportunities for girls in the region who would otherwise go without formal training. The Mayan Center offers students a robust curriculum, small class sizes, individual attention, and interactive learning outside the classroom in the garden and nutrition centers, and the rainforest.
