Mary is a journalist and photographer who went on to operate her own business, Writing, Editing & Ideas. Now retired, she met Frances Dixon, Adopt-a-Village in Guatemala's founder and president, at a Rotary meeting in Grants Pass, OR, in 2012. She quickly tuned in to Dixon’s unrivaled passion for her life’s work—lifting Maya youth through education from hunger and hopelessness to success.
Mary volunteered for a week at the Maya Jaguar campus in February 2020, where she stayed in the girls dorm and observed campus life from the inside. She was deeply impressed by the students’ positive attitudes and work ethics. She also visited with Maya Jaguar the villages Adopt-a-Village serves, and was moved by the joy with which village children and Maya Jaguar students interacted during lessons.
Mary is proud to support Adopt-a-Village with her time and treasures. Mary’s blog, Ordinary Life, will soon feature tales of her Maya Jaguar experiences.
